Google Chrome - plays Youtube videos with a sound stutter??

Why is Google Chrome suddenly became very slow turning pages over, playing youtube clips the voice stutters, and at times the processor is in use 100% and bottoms out, frustration, I removed it and then reloaded to no affect.

when I use IE and play Youtube then all is well, but even IE is slow in turning over pages, Google Chrome was pretty fast but is jnow completely useless, I am still on Win XP and am likely to use it for another 2 to 3 years before I upgrag to anything new

Is the disk chugging more than usual?
Does it happen all the time or at certain times of the day?
Does it happen straight away or only after the PC has been on for hours?
Is the web browser the only thing open or are there other programs running in the background?

yes my desktop is cluttered with quite a few icons, though google chrome now runs poorly, from the start, processor shows very very busy almost clipping and things start to get stuck and take such a long time. There are no other programes running in the background.

Got the same on my chrome.
I've had to stop using it for youtube and go back to IE which seems fine.
