The 'is my roof to low' question comes up a lot on here, with many considering lowering the ceilings below or using the minimum insulation as planning won't allow the roof to be raised.
A current government consultation is proposing allowing raising the roof by 30cm as permitted development for all types of house to avoid these issues.
Personally I think 30cm is just kicking this down the line for when insulation requirements are next increased, and 1m might be more reasonable. Plus perhaps there should be some prior approval so it's not taking the proverbial.
