Complete newbie here to laying patios etc however I had a quote recently to part slab outside the patio doors and then run a wide gravel path around the house and down the side (covering the man hole covers) so about 1.6m in width from the house wall.
The quote I had was £4.5k which I just can’t afford… however I need to do something to spruce the garden up!
Iv thought about tackling it myself and seeing it as a little project.
I’m thinking of doing mostly gravel, angular 20mm Cotswold stuff and then putting a small rectangle spanned area outside the patio doors for a table and chairs - keeping it simple so it doesn’t require any cuts.
I know I’d need to lay MOT Type 1, weed membrane etc, but what sized wooden sleepers would I need for gravel retainers going on to the lawn? Struggling with how thick and tall they need to be?
Can any suggest what depth MOT I’d need and depth of gravel?
Also, could I lay the slabs on top of the MOT I lay?
Any advice appreciated
