Hi... .. this is a long shot but does anyone know anything about reciprocating ( I think that's the word ) blades. The strimmer is only 2 years old and I have cut my hedge about 6 time. It's out of guarantee but I've been in touch with GTECH and they are trying to sell me a new motor. The motor is fine, it's just the blades that are not crossing and cutting. I have had it stripped down and can't see anything wrong ( although I probably wouldn't know if there was ). When I turn on the strimmer it is just not cutting the hedge
help please

My trimmer (a big mains one, not a Gtech), which I used this morning - has one fixed (unmoving) blade and a second one which moves against it to cut. From what I remember, all of my trimmers over the years have worked like that.

Might your fixed blade have simply come loose and is moving with the moving blade?

no all the screws are tight on the blades I have an old mains electric trimmer I can use until I get it sorted.....worst scenario is i'll have to buy another trimmer head £49. but thanks for your help

Any chance of a picture of the dismantled gearbox Mick?
As Harry says, some have only one moving blade, some have two.
John :)
hi John i'll try to get a photo on but it won't be today I think it might be the disks inside the drive that are damaged but they look ok.

Last pic, Mick - the one with the handle.
Somethings up with that circlip in the middle.....its deformed as if its come adrift and its allowing that alloy drive dog to float.
Any comments on that?
John :)
