Hi everyone, I'm going to be topping up the existing inadequate loft insulation in my late 1940s home. There's an existing thin sheet layer of insulation. Being curious I was trying to work out what it is. No idea when it was put in either. Think I can see fine long strands, a bit shiny in the light. It doesn't burn but when it tried a lighter on it, it was like it melted. I reckon it's fibreglass just wondered if anyone in the know could hazard an educated guess?

How old is it? How thick is it?

He said it was existing and thin. Please let me know how old and what thickness it is as I missed it?

So it's merely older than when he moved in presumably but that isn't the thickness either. Anyway I'd hazard polyester.
Looks similar (as in white and thin) but not the same material just due to the slight glean and you can make out longer thinner threads in the light.
