I have a Halogen floor lamp that won't light.
Bulb is good - works in another lamp.
Volt meter shows 117v at the bulb contacts..

Switch is a floor slide dimmer.
Any ideas?

are the contacts on the bulb or holder dirty?

has the dimmer been re-rated and capable of the load?

first thing would be to try bypassing the dimmer those things do fail especially if overloaded (and the maximum load with halgens is considerablly lower than with other types of lighting due to the huge inrush halogens take)

remember multimeters (especially digital ones) are sesigned to draw almost no current from the cuircuit/equipment under test sojust because they show mains voltage does not mean there is a good connection to the mains

The halogen floor lamp came with the dimmer built in.
The bulbs all work in a similar Halogen lamp so it isn't the bulbs.
I will try and clean the contacts on the lamp to see if that helps.

I did notice a few months ago that I would turn the lamp on and it would take a moment to light - sort of hesitated.

Thanks for the feedback.
