Hi
Im not the best of handymen so I apologise for my terminology! A few downlights have blown in our house and am trying to replace them. They are the 12v with the straight pins. When I try to remove them the bulb comes out but the pins stay in the socket. I'm pulling the globe straight, not twisting or turning. This has now happened twice. Is there a reason for this. Have not had to change them for 4 years. Is there a safe way to remove pins (ie turn mains power off and use pliers to pull them out) or is this something I will need to get an electrician to look at?

Thanks [/i]

I would always isolate the circuit and prove that the circuit was dead.
A photo of what you have may help.
If the pins are sticking in the lampholders, you will require some grips to remove them, unfortunately due to wear/tear and heat disapation, it is not uncommon to have problems such as these.
On removal check the condition of the lampholders, they may have deteriorated, also on replacement of lamps, if they do not work, on occasions the transformers also need to be replaced.
