Hey all,

Ok so we have a Vokera Compact A 25kw boiler and 5 radiators (plus two towel rails) in the 3 bed house we’ve bought.

We wanted to change one of the downstairs rads to be one of these designer tall radiators. Plumber has installed it and then when we’ve turned the heating on, all radiators get hot apart from this one.

If we leave it for a few hours, it gets luke warm maybe but no hotter. Pipe in to the rad is piping hot but almost stops there.

Thermostat turn up to full, all radiators has been released of air.

Does anyone know what the cause could be?

Airlock, better balancing required, tall radiator flow and return fitted the wrong way round are the obvious possibilities.

Ask the plumber to come back.

Thanks for your reply :)

Plumber is back and said he's done all that and certain the valves are on the right way (and he said the valves we both flow-ways compatible anyway). Is it a possibility that the boiler isn't powerful enough to heat the tall radiator on the ground floor, with the boiler being on the first floor (25kw). The radiator it replaced was a single panel and now this is a double panel tall one.

He's used the original 10mm pipe from the old radiator and connected it to a new 15mm pipe as he said it would fill faster too.

Plumber needs to fix it, it should have been tested and confirmed to you it was hot when it was installed.

Boiler is more than capable to heat all those rads.

Some tall column designer rads need to have their flow and returns installed on the correct sides as they have a baffle in them to make sure the radiator heats up properly, if this is the case the rad usually has stickers that mark it or it would be in the manufacturers instructions.

He needs to work through the problem and test all the possible causes, if he has the experience

Thanks all, problem fixed. It was the smallest issue of the other side of the pipe (out pipe, excuse my lack of knowledge) needed the Alan key twisting so the flow could exit.

How annoying!!!
