Heat pump tumble dryers

Hi all, first time post….

my vented dryer packed up and I can’t get a built in one anymore so going for a heat pump one…
A lot complaint of dampness in and around the dryers when in use, as it’s built in I’m worried about dampness getting in all the kitchen cupboards…

mad the last dryer was vented there’s a hose and vent to the outside wall..I’m thinking of fitting a extractor fan on the hole and turn it on when the dryer is in use..hopefully to take any vapour away…

Does that sound ok…?? Or bad idea..?

You can still buy vented dryers.
The extract fan is a good idea but then you are countering the energy benefits of the heat pump dryer by pumping your house warm air outside.
I don't think you'll need to do that though, heat pump units don't create as much external condensation apparently.
 
Hi Blueloo

No manufacturers make “built in” vented tumble dryers, believe me I’ve searched everywhere…hence the concern about the moisture build up….

Ah, when you said "built in", i thought something else :)
 
I have a condenser drier, pumps warm air out to help warm the kitchen, and just pour the water down the sink.
Venting out warm air can't be very eco friendly, can it?

As a tip....

Look in the manual.
If it is situated near a drain, you just unplug the water pump hose from the back and put it into the drain.
It is standard practice for these things. I have mine in the same upstand pipe as the washing machine.

Saves the pain in the arse of emptying them or them stopping when full :)
 
Montpellier MTDI7S is a built in vented dryer if still available, made by White Kinght.
 
Oddly enough the vented ones lint up far worse than the condensing driers ....get a condensing one far better made than vented.
Had a contract to modify them to stop them catching fire ! So I know what I'm talking about at least on this subject !
 
Hi all thanks for the replies, white knight only do a free standing unit now, no one else builds a built in vented dryer…….

Unfortunately tech has moved on in the wrong direction…..so my only option is a condenser/heat pump dryer, all the reviews are not good, but looks like I’ll go for a Montpellier for no other reason than it has slightly better reviews….Hoover and Candy have awful reviews….

has to be built in, otherwise I will have a big gap in a £15.000 1 year old kitchen…

I would imagine it would be a bit tricky to install a built-in vented tumble dryer, what with the need to route/connect the vent hose. Surely the hose would need to be at least the length of the depth of the worktop plus a bit extra to get your arm in to connect it and then it would have to be squeezed between the dryer and the wall when you pushed the thing into place? Also, it could only go on an outside wall. At least with a condenser, it can go anywhere in the kitchen.

Hoover and Candy, white knight, whirlpool, indesit, etc all the same company i think. (****e).
AEG/Electrolux and Zanuusi are the same company, albeit supposedly a bit better.
Bosch, Neff, Siemans... you get the picture.

It is all disposable single-use ****e anyway no matter who you buy from.

That wouldn’t be a problem as the one that came out was vented, so hole is already there, already to go…but alas no vented dryers to be had….

What ill-effects do you anticipate from fitting a free-standing appliance?
