Heating & Hit Water question - sorry long

Hi,

Just moved into a flat that has storage heaters and an immersion tank.

The lanlord said it was economy 7 but I discovered when getting meter readings for the electricity board that the meter is only operating on a single rate so it must have been changed at some strange.

Inside the property there are two CUs present. On two of the heaters there is one wall switch, on the other there is two switches with two leeds.

On the immersion heater there is two switches with leeds running to different part of the tank.

On the wall outside of the immersion room there is a switch on the wall with a mechanical timer, it says “Water heater two hour boost”.

I’m trying to work out that because there is only one rate in use on the meter whether that means that both switches are in use on the immersion heater and the storage heater? What if both are switched on at the same time?

Does it mean the immersion heater is running 24/7? surely not other wise it would cost a fortune in electricity?

Any advice appreciated thanks.

If it is, you can get it changed back to E7 or whatever - if you want.

Can we have a picture of the CUs and all the things in the meter compartment?
The one with two switches will allow it to be on when the E7 is off, if you had it.

Normal. The top one will heat less water quicker at any time if you had E7.

That should be the top 24 hour one.

If wired properly, that should not be possible.

It does, but it will switch off when the water is hot enough and stay hot for quite a long time if you don't use any.

You - or landlord - could have a timer fitted.
