Hi there,
I am in real need of some advice please.
Bit of a different project but ...
Ive created a 12' by 8' mural on x3 wbp 18mm plywood boards.
The perimeter of the mural (about 40cm depth) will be tiled with approx 4m squared childrens artwork on ceramic 100mx100mm tiles ( I know ceramic wasnt the best choice for exterior).
The whole mural will be going on an exterior wall on a wooden frame.
I am planning to fix 10mm marmox to the perimeter with BAL SPF and screw down and then tile on that using the BAL SPF and then grout and silicone. Ill be using Marmox waterproofing tape on joints and edges.
My questions are:
Do I need to tank the back of the plywood where the tiles will be or will the marmox be ok?
If I tank over the entire back of the plywood would there be any reaction to acrylic paint on the front of the ply and /or waterbased primer Ive used on the back (zinsser bullseye)?
Can you recommend a tanking medium or kit that would be best?
Should I be using epoxy grout on the tiles or will BAL superflex be ok? If I use epoxy how tough is it to work with? I need to keep the kids artwork as clean as poss.
Would 2mm grout lines allow for expansion and movement?
Is the BAL SPF my best choice or is there a better addy for this?
Do Ineed an S2 adhesive?
Should I be using a thin bed solid bed trowel? 6mm? Thick bed?
Should I be sealing the tiles and grout after? What should I use?
Is there anything I can do to help the ceramic tiles from crazing or cracking?
How likely is the plywood and marmox gonna hold up to this?
Are there any other products youd recommend instead?
Sorry for all the questions but I need to get this right!
Thanks in advance guys
