Help!! Leaking tap fitting.

My daughter has bought one of these extending nozzle kitchen tap. Two tails are a challenge when cramped under the sink but add a third one!!!

The tap came with a plastic fitting to screw into the third tail out of the bottom of the tap. The hose going to the extending nozzle has O rings and clips into this fitting which seems firm enough and I did put silicone grease on the o rings before inserting. Switched on and the fitting appears to leak from the threads going into the tap tail.

Looking at the plastic fitting it has parallel threads so I would have expected there to be a face washer to provide the seal but could see no washer in the pack of parts which came with the tap.

Going to have a look in my 'rainy day' box of bits to see if I can a small rubber washer or one I can modify to fit.

Do you agree or is there another approach to seal?

Yes it needs a seal.

Just cut one but I'm concerned about whether it would tighten down enough to not allow the fitting to come loose. I forgot to say I did try some PTFE tape but I couldn't get it to stay on the fitting long enough to get to the tap tail. Just realised I was using gas tape which is much thicker so will try some thinner stuff when I get some tomorrow.

I've also got some Tru-Blu pipe sealant but again not sure if it will work on plastic and if it does is it too permanent.

All you need is the correct seal. Why not contact the manufacturer for the correct one ?

Not sure where it came from. No details on the box or on the very brief instructions and then it didn’t cover the fitting of the tap tails.

just as an aside , how does she get hot water ? I have seen issue with bungalows with a hot water tank in loft and those extendable taps - hardly working on hot water as the pressure is too low

No problems, direct hot water cylinder.

Hard to tell just from looking, but:
1. Looks like a 3/4" BSP thread, in which case it may take a 3/4" washing machine washer. E.g. Screwfix item No. 6039J
2. If the outside diameter of the male threaded part is 26.44 mm / fraction over 1" diameter it is almost certainly 3/4" BSP.

It’s much smaller, just over 1/2” diameter.

Rang Tap Warehouse. Said they would contact supplier. Not heard from them since.

Cut a rubber washer for the face and for belt and braces wrapped PTFE tape round the threads.

Worked perfectly and no leaks.
