Currently have a basic outside light on a switch but want to replace with a ring wired floodlight camera. I have extra wires because of the switch but for the life of me I can’t remember what slot I would put them into on the ring backing plate. As it only have E N L and existing has E N L1 L2 please help.

Has the light switch got a Test switch of some sort to switch it on overriding a PIR ? Did the Ring not come with instructions? Would have thought the wire in one goes to L and one Neutral to Neutral and the other wire just put on a Choc block or Wago

No test switch. All instructions are geared up to wire live to live. Neutral to neutral no mention of an extra wire.

Just wire it as perm live to live on ring cam...N to N and Earth to earth...put existing switch line in a connector block and leave switch off or disconnect from switch.........Or put perm live into a connector and use switch line as your perm and leave switch on

That’s what I thought mate. Thank you. From the pic is it definitely L2 that’s the switch line?

Only way to be sure is to test if L2 is dead when switch is off....I would say that 90% of the time yes it is the switch line but you never know and better to be sure by testing
