Hikvision NVR HDD

It's now connecting to the laptop, but just seems to be going round in circles.....

Not those exact words but you get the point. Does the same on both drives.

New drive DOA ?
 
All sorted, wow what a F about that was. I gave up on the laptop, my brother is an IT tecnician so I took the new WD Purple HDD to him and he plugged it in. The drive was in two partitions/volumes out of the box, 2.5 TB and 5.5 TB (or thereabouts), why would this be ? Is this normal on this type of drive ?? He said it was strange so he erased one and formatted it, so it was one volume, but when I got home it still wouldn't boot to this drive. I found a new SSD in the drawer that he gave me ages ago and it booted to that straight away. So I downloaded the firmware to a USB stick and then the upgrade was successful. Once I did this, I shut it down, put the new Purple drive back in and then...praise the lord it booted up fine ! I'm still not sure exactly what the root of the problem was...but I'm not too bothered. So I'm back up and running, thanks to all that have contributed, it's really appreciated. Though, looks like I need ladders out now as I've still got a few issues to sort......bloody things o_O
