Hi, I have a dual channel hive package I looking to change my potterton ep2 programmer for. I have to swap out the double backplate for the one supplied with the hive. Can someone please give me an idea how to wire the new backplate with those from the existing ep2 programmer. I have attached a rough wiring diagram of the existing programmer.
Many thanks

Ignoring the extra terminals,
N, L, 1, 2, 3 & 4 share exactly the same function as the dual channel Hive.

That means that your room thermostat is very unlikely to be connected between terminals 3 (hot water on) and 4 (C/H on).

That leaves...
The Brown in 5 can move to L on Hive.

And the Black and Brown in terminal D, can connect together in a separate terminal block.
However, as we don't know which other wires go to the existing room thermostat, it is possible that this connection could be related.

Thanks for your reply, 3 and 4 definitely go to the room stat, will have to look further as to where the third wire in the stat goes

Can you provide photos of the wiring at the EP2 and room stat? If 3 and 4 definitely go to the room stat, then what is controlling your hot water?

Attached are photos of the room stat, unfortunately I’m not able to get a photo of the EP2 programmer till next weekend.
If I’ve made a mistake identifying the room stat wiring, can I put the brown 5 into the live for the hive?
If I wanted to remove the wires to the room stat how would I do that
Many thanks

A three port valve Y Plan (three port valve) uses the DHW off contacts, but most others only use the on or normally open contacts. However replacing a programmer with a thermostat will mean removing the existing thermostat wiring.

Since you show DHW off will assume Y Plan,

Note the wiring centre may not be using same contacts Hive I think uses this plan

with out thermostat and you can see the bridge 4 to 5 in the wiring centre. The white wire from the motorised valve may assist in identifying the thermostat cable.
