good morning.

I’m after so information on wiring my Hives up. I’ve just bout the active heating and extra hive

We have 2 thermostats to replace.
In my current thermostat they only have 4 wire. L, N, E and a L when the heating is called (CH on?)

I’ve put the wires to the corresponding pins on the hive and it fires up as it should. But when I press the CH button the boiler doesn’t fire up.

Any ideas what I’m missing?
I’ve seen some diagrams with a loop between the L and Common?
It’s a Baxi boiler, with 2 Honeywell zone valves running Drayton combistats

Thanks for looking

It will never work if there is not a connection to the 'com'. All Hive installations require a 'com' connection of some kind.

The 'com' and 'Heating on' terminals are connected inside the Hive to a switch. When the Hive switches 'on' the two terminals are effectively joined together. If there is nothing connected to the 'com', the switch will operate and connect the motorised valve to ...nothing.... so nothing will happen.

Connecting the 'com' to the 'L' gives the Hive something to switch to the motorised valve and make it open.

AFAIK the combistat is just a thermostat and is not of the programmable kind. So is there a separate programmer for on / off time control you haven't mentioned?

There is a timer on the boiler. But it is switched to perm on so the thermostats control when it’s on/off.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that if there was one, that it was set to be permanently 'on' otherwise that could have stopped stop the Hives working.
