I have just spotted an oil leak form the back of the rear diff on my Landrover 90. It is above the filler hole so I suspect it is oil leaking out as it is being thrown around whilst moving or draining down when stationary. The casing sounds a bit thin when tapped. Can I weld a patch if I can find somthing solid to weld to!!!????

you can patch the LR diff pans quite easily. only down side is it tends to burn the paint/crud/whatever inside the diff casing under where you weld. you would have to flush the axle casing with degreaser etc thouroughly after welding to avoid getting crud in the diff bearings.

Thanks. Thought I would have to push a bit of diesel through to clean it out anyway - might be some rust in it too!!
