I could have sworn I saw a home automation forum on diynot. If not, any chance of one being created?

I would also like to see an 'ecological building' section. For the discussion of both new eco builds, and retrospective work to reduce the environmental impact of a house.

Home automation, isn't that what wives are for?

I am undecided if splitting into too many subjects is good or bad? The question is where does "Home Automation", "Electrics UK", "Computers/Software", "Computers/Hardware", "Appliances", "Alarms etc", and "Audio Visual" start and stop?

I have been looking for methods to help my 90 year old disabled mother and the items required stray into all groups and so one wants to post in all groups but that is against the rules.

I am thinking Arduino is likely the best system to bring together all I want, but also SCARTA and PLC's come in as does alarm panels and IP web cams with audio visual and to have a "Home Automation" section just further splits it up. And what is "Home Automation"? We tend to consider auto curtain drawers and PIR controlled lights but with the "NEST" system these systems all get bunched together so questions could be directed to the Plumbing and Central heating section.

I will daily visit Electrics UK section but not visit the rest more than once a month and I am sure many others are the same. So on the whole having a special section I think could end up counter productive where tradesmen don't visit the sections so all you get is the blind leading the blind.

With the way the new forum handles (or can handle) moved topics it is clear that we could have "symbolic links" which would allow one topic to appear to be in multiple fora - better than actually duplicating topics, (a) for space efficiency, (b) only one set of replies.

Unreasonable though to have to ask a Mod to do that - it would be better if people could select multiple fora when creating a topic. The spammers will love it tough.
