Just cover the hole with gaffer tape or similar ( both sides) and you’ll get another couple of years out of it.....no point in doing more as there will be lots more corrosion there.
The deck price has risen quite considerably recently, to around £160 inc postage. I get mine from Junglebusters, Gateshead.

Thanks have some silver duct tape will give it a go.

Gave it a scrape off today wounding weather to pop rivet a patch over hole area.

Also the old girl has stood for some time and is hunting a bit with a bit of black smoke occasionally am I looking at a carb strip ?

By all means faff around with plating if you want....you'll get a couple more years out of it but the end result will be the same.
If you order a new deck, the colours are blue (old) or silver (recent) and whether it's self propelled or not are the important points.
If its a 21" machine, the bolt on grass deflectors on the deck underside will need replacing too - the 16" and 18" machines don't have them.
Regarding the black smoke, check the paper air filter element first and make sure the choke is coming fully off before delving into the carb.......the throttle cable needs careful adjustment to get both full throttle and choke operation.
John :)

Thanks John

Good idea checking choke & throttle, paper filter took at the moment as the mower was put on its side oil was coming out of carb filter don't ask who put in on it's side.

Look no further!! Genuine Honda filters are ridiculously expensive, but I get pattern ones from GHS Ltd which are just fine.

black smoke has now stopped after a 15 min run must have been oil in cylinder,

still shunts so will look at your suggestion Sat

Now running sweet as a nut as they say.

What silver paint would you suggest ?

Is it worth putting Kurust on deck first ?

I think I will go ahead and put a patch on the deck hole after cleaning off the rust bubbles.

Don't think a new deck would be profiterole.

For paint, Hammerite smooth, brush or spray. Kurust will help existing rust to some degree but whether its worth the cost is up to you! Any rust bubbles are coming from the underside.
Only personally speaking but I'd rather redeck an Izy (if the engine is ok) rather than buy a new B&Q special.
Enjoy the project! Drain out the oil and petrol before turning the thing over.

for the deck underside - Waxoyl!

I do minę once a year and whilst there is surface rust the deck is still solid. Pressure wash the underside 2 or 3 times a season. Wet grass will destroy the deck quicker than anything. Wet grass sticks like S1ht to the underside.

if the mower turned so the carb is down the engine breather will allow the oil to flood the air filter - hence the black smoke if you can get the mower to run.

Black smoke: it was turned on its carb side by persons unknown ! , ran for 15 mins new air filter now starts first/second time drives up and down 30 yard lawn no problem.
will look to see what a new deck would cost, I would then keep this as a second machine.

Only genuine decks are available but swapping over is simple enough......14mm socket for the blade, 12mm for the engine and 8mm for the axle - self tappers, those. I give the deck a heavy coat of Hammerite first.

The cost of a new deck is not for me, bit costly.

Advice should Kurust treat the area then smooth Hammerite under & top of the deck ?

Then pop rivet a pierce of thin alley over the area ?

Should last longer than Duct tape.

I think you'll find the rust is a lot more advanced once you've cleaned off the underside but there's nothing wrong with what you propose.
I'm still redecking machines from 2004!
