I have a part wired/part wireless Galaxy G2-12 panel with an SGU601 fire alarm wired in to it. The SGU601 was here when I moved in a few months ago, and it could have potentially been fitted in 2004 - so is very old.

I've noticed that it's not going off (eg when my wife burns the toast) even when the mains powered fire alarms in the rest of the house go off.

1) Can I simply replace the SGU601 unit and keep the base which is already wired in? I'm not enormously confident rewiring the base
2) If this is possible, where can I purchase it from? A reputable shop and bonus if I can avoid eBay or Amazon if possible.
3) Should the alarm even be going off during general use (eg burnt toast), as it's a "Carbon Monoxide Fire Detector"...does that mean that only Carbon Monoxide

Pics attached.

Thank you!

Seeing as that’s a CARBON MONOXIDE detector and not a smoke detector , that’s the reason it doesn’t go off when you burn the toast …. It’s probably out of date by now anyway

yes, i thought that would be the case.

I agree - it probably is out of date - I think they only last about 10 years. It doesn't look they they are still manufactured, but any ideas on whether I could still source a replacement unit and salvage the base?

The only detector that I know of is a CQR Branded one …

would that be compatible with the base of the SGU601? Doesn't need to be carbon monoxide - any fire/smoke/heat detector would work...I've seen some 12v Texecom ones - would they be compatible with the G2-12? (appreciate i'll need to replace the base)

Yes you will need to replace the base ….menvier m12 would be my choice
Brilliant, thank you. I have ordered the unit.

Would you be able to give some guidance with wiring it? I may need to rely on a professional, but finding a pro on the Honeywell G2 is becoming tougher and tougher!
