Hotpoint Ultima WT741 won't start cycle

Put the washing machine on last night, but after pressing the start button, it just sits there, then after a wait, the display says "door". The door is latched and locked, but that's all that happens.
Please help advise what to check.

Motor brushes

Removing motor to inspect brushes required abilities of contortionism and magic! Brushes had quite a bit of meat on them, so cleaned carbon dust off everything including rotor com. Re-assembled and now works a treat!
