How do you pay your national insurance (literally)

I've never understood why people submit the numbers so late. My accountant did mine in May last year - doesn't affect the payment due by the 31st Jan - which I sent yesterday

Same here. I submitted my return on19 May last year. I would have done it sooner but I was waiting for the P60 from my private pension. I submitted my payment at the same time as it wasn't much due to my semi retirement but it stayed in my tax account and will only be taken tomorrow.
