This is the result of 5 decades of failure in regards to housing

Thatcher flogged off council houses to get the working class to vote for her

Blair period saw cheap mortgages and rapidly increasing prices

2010 to pandemic saw massive amounts of QE - which helped increase property values

between 2010 and now Tories have had 16 housing ministers

Its easy for me to sit here in a mortgage free house and not appreciate how people are stuck paying 50% of their wages in rent….and can’t get out of the rent trap.

I did hear Labour were in discussions with mortgage companies to try and get a govt guarantee scheme so people could get a mortgage with much smaller deposit - great idea but can only work if housing supply increase at faster rate than demand

Could it possibly be the result of people having children that they can't afford to bring up?
Could it be that there are a lot of single mothers who get everything from the state at the same time as boasting that they are doing it all on their own and don't need anybody else, i.e. a husband with a job?

Ah yes the Conservatives and their client media told you to believe that.

ALL the governments since about 1970 are to blame.
I agree

the housing crisis has developed over many decades

How we sort it out Ive no idea, property should be for people to have a home not as an investment tool, but no political party would win power by making houses affordable and nobody wants more houses near where they live.

Come on Notch. We can see it with our own eyes. Extra millions in UK population, mainly pennyless, sponging third worlders. I can see it happening not far from me on a council estate that was almost 100% local white Bristolian. Amid a housing crisis where private rents are unaffordable and local people can't even get on the council list - our trecherous politicians are giving housing to third worlders as quickly as they can. It's a bit obvious when suddenly you are seeing big numbers of brown faces.

Strangely all the homeless panhandlers in these parts are white.

There is no failure.
This is how society wants it to be else it would be different.

The system is working perfectly.

Just ask anyone with a house or a "investment property". They will be delighted at the financial leverage housing has.

This is why there is active immigration and why most people should be cheering for it. Property is the ultimate capitalist exercise. You need constant growth and demand and that (babies) isn't going to come from kevin and tracy working full time on minimum wage in Tesco's to pay the rent.

This is what the country wants.
You just don't know it.

The system is working perfectly.

It is working to the benefit of (mostly older) people fortunate enough to own one or more homes.

It is working to the detriment of (mostly younger but also low-paid) people who see no prospect of such luck.

Analysis of voting patterns shows some surprisingly obvious examples of the interests of older voters taking priority.
