Hi all

Client has asked me to lay a paved footpath through the middle of this gravel driveway so they can drag the bins to the road. There is weed membrane underneath the gravel. I'm guessing if we cleared the gravel, and laid mortar on the weed membrane it will eventually move.

It needs to be a continuous pathway, rather than stepping stones. Is it a case of biting the bullet and tearing a huge channel out of the middle, laying hardcore, and proceeding as normal, or is there another way of creating a path? Any ideas

Move the gravel to the sides take some soil also depend how many gravel is there put some membrane, hardcore compress everything , mortar on each side paving blocks let them stay for day and then to the middle part just put some sand level and paving blocks easy job

You can lay slabs directly onto membrane but the slabs must be open jointed or the joints filled with gravel as grouting will not cope with the degree of ground movement. Open or gravel filled joints are harder to maintain than grouted joins and the whole finish is less durable.

Absolutely nothing to do with the question at hand but if the path is to let them wheel their bins out and in... do they really want to be putting the bins directly under their living room window like that?

It'll be absolutely stinking and in the summer their house will be full of flies every time they open a window.

Anyway, apologies for the off-topic response but it might be worth noting that with them before they go to the effort of putting a path there.
