How to waterproof my laminate flooring?

Hi Guys,

I couldn't find any product out there (specifically for laminate flooring) that i could use to waterproof my laminate flooring.

Is there anyone know what would be best product to use to waterproof/seal my laminate flooring? Could you send me a link or name or product best for this job?

Best thing I ever did was rip all the laminate up out of our kitchen and hall way and tile it.

Answer from the Manufacturer:
we do not recommend sealing a laminate floor. When preparing the floor for the coating with a thorough cleaning, neutralization and light sanding, the laminate is subjected to a lot of water, which can lead to irreversible damages (swelling) of the fiberboard layer.

I am a DIYer.
As I understand, standard Laminate is not the right Material for Wet areas.
OK for occasional splashes/spills that are wiped up quickly.

Where is the laminate and why do you think it needs waterproofing?

Laminate moves underfoot breaking any surface covering applied and edges also allow water in as can’t be sealed .

It is in the kitchen. My concern is my kids splash water all over the places when they use the sink.

That’s why it’s unsuitable for kitchens.

The flooring may already be ok for Kitchen use?

The only time I have done more than needed is in the bathroom where I put a bead of pva on the joints as an extra barrier.

I can't tell you how much laminate has to be ripped out of kitchens and bathrooms every year - beloved by designers and architects, it's another one of these "must have" designer features (in the same way that high gloss kitchen worktops are) which is great for selling houses, but completely and utterly useless in terms of utility and durability. At the end of the day it is fundamentally MDF with a thin layer of paper and a microscopically thin layer of plastic applied over that, so if any of the sealing breaks down it is going to fail

All you can do is mop splashes up quickly and when it does eventually fail replace it with a more suitable floor covering.
