Hunt the drain pipe

Hello,
The downpipes on our (recently moved into) house aren't connected to any drain pipes. I've managed to fix this at one side of the house, with help from diynot!

I'm now tackling the other side and have dug down as you can see in the photo. No sign of any drain yet. My question is where's the best place to dig to next? Under the fence or out away from the house?

Any advice appreciated.

There may not be one. Are there any downpipes or surface grids nearby that might give a clue.

Other than the downpipe visible in the picture, there's nothing around. And the neighbour's houses are a bit different but I'll have a look tomorrow.
I'm working on the assumption here that the pipes were laid in the ground properly but just never connected to that downpipe. Yee-hah!
