I-on40 RF Jamming

Hello all,

Problem when arming my I-on40 alarm in that several of the Wireless sensors reported RF jamming issues when the alarm was last set.

From installation mode I tried to reset one of the shock sensors reporting rf jamming but this did not resolve the issue. In the end I removed the detector and zone settings but then other zones reported similar problems. In the end I armed the system by way of bypassing each sensor.

All the sensors involved appear to be towards the rear of the property while other radio sensors including PIR and Vibration are not being reported as RF jamming.

What I want to try and establish is do I have a problem at the panel or is there some type of interference going on that's causing the sensors to report RF jamming and how do i establish this?

I was thinking of taking the sensors reporting the problems in close proximity to the panel to see if the issues then clear.

Panel is 40ft away from sensors. Building is brick built four bedroom detached property. The alarm has been in working order for some six months which is when it was installed. 4 x radio PIR, 6 x wired PIR, 3 x wired keypad, 1 x wired bell, 1 x radio bell, 3 x shock sensors.

Sorry should have mentioned, web connection shows all zone signals as strong, no fault, masking or tamper errors being shown when checked this morning. System log shows this:-

  3. 28/05/2020 23:15:25 Z22 RF Warning (LivRmFrontPI)
 
Most likely someone nearby has equipment that is using the same radio frequency as your alarm system.

That is the downside of wireless security systems, they can be "compromised" by other equipment legally using the same channel.

i added the shock sensor back in this morning and re-tested the entire system and the RF warnings have now all cleared.

I assume that the external signal (if that was the cause) would need to be stronger than the system the wireless devices are sending in order to mask mine or is it that the panel is simply picking up other radio signals on the same frequency and is then triggering so its not just the case of the stronger one wins?

The strange thing here is that other radio signals towards the front of the house did not report similar problems thus implying the panel was working via radio and that just a number of sensors were unable to get their transmission signal through.

Doesn't need to be stronger. To disrupt the messages the blocking / jamming signal at the receiver needs to be only half as strong as the system's signal. ( this varies depending on the type of wireless signals being used )

which suggests the source of the blocking signal was behind the house
 
Yep, 500 - 1600 mhz is for devices of low power and not requiring a license so find out what this is may be a little difficult. Whatever it is its breaking the Ofcom's Interface Requirement IR2030 in that's it's transmitting using high powered signal which is not permitted otherwise it would not be bleeding into my area.
 
IR2030 does not apply to the whole range 500 - 1600 MHz, only to the narrow specific sub bands approved for SRDs.

500 - 1600 MHz includes TV broadcasting, cellular radio and many other services.
 
It could be a perfectly legal transmission if the propagation path from the offending transmitter to your affected receiver is shorter and/or less obstructed than the path from your transmitter to your receiver.

Systems using Licence Exempt wireless should be designed to tolerate or "fail safe" if the channel is blocked by other users.
 
out of interest, did you take out the battery when you took it off the system and put in a new battery when you re added it?
