Ideas for lawn edging

Looking for ideas for low cost lawn edging to separate lawn from borders. Larger area to cover. Established lawns and recently decluttered borders.

- Lawn and borders are at same/similar level. Probably benefit from a slight raised edge.
- Edges are straight with square corners.
- Lawns are mostly flat so no dips, etc to contend with.

Prefer something traditional/simple as we have a couple of stone raised beds and walls.

Suggestions welcomed

My neighbour laid a brick edge, flat to the lawn

I just used timber (which eventually rots) with stakes into the ground
 
Had considered timber but as you say it is not a long term solution (due to rot). I've previously used decking wood for quick raised beds - still looked good 10+ years later although was sat on lawn not buried.

Just updated my original post to include reference to existing stone raised beds and walls. I've seen (and like) reclaimed brick but sadly probably not the best colour for our garden. Would we ideal to drop on a suitable quantity of brick size/shaped stone but that would need need more than good luck!
 
If you used a thicker timber board like a 6x2 it would last longer, probably a few decades? Depends what materials you can get locally and what you like the look of
 
Consider a 50mm flat top kerb stone, very tidy and easy to keep. Neater than the round top and easy to make corners if you needed/wanted too, using a simple timber mound.

A raised edge can mean you end up needing to get a trimmer out to tidy up each time you cut the grass. If you fit a solid edge (like bricks) the same height as the lawn, or a tad lower, you can run your mower onto it. Then the only edging you need to do is maybe an annual tidy-up to stop any spreading of the lawn onto the edging.
