My XP operated pc seems to not be allowing me to use IE 8 to browse anymore. It just opens to the home page & then shuts down again. I can't remember/seem to work out how to change the home page to see if that is the problem. Any ideas welcomed. Thanks

See if you can repair it under setting, or delete and reinstall it. Have you tried using Chrome or Firefox instead.

It won't repair, it just uninstalls. It's no longer available as a download from Microsoft. I did a system restore & still same. I have been using firefox at the same time but wanted to keep IE8 for my long list of favourites. Do you know how to set the home page, I know I have altered it before but cannot remember how for love nor money. Thanks.

I'm on Edge now, so haven't used it in some time. But you should be able to Google the instructions somewhere on the net. But if you can't download it any longer, then I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to have put a problem in somewhere.

Thanks for that but I want to have the option of both. The problem is it shuts down before you can get to "tools"

But, if you import your favourites (I assume these are also bookmarks) FROM IE8 To FireFox - you have breathing space.
I don't think IE8 needs to be running for the import to take place, this is done from FireFox itself, as per the FireFox help in my link above.
