Rolling up sleeves and installing the Nest thermostat we treated ourselves to for Christmas.

Attached some screenshots of previous and new wiring to check before switching it back on.
Anyone able to cast an eagle eye over these to make sure looks right?

Black wire is boiler and White wire is mains.
Both N wires into N (only mains was connected before).
Both Earth into Earth (these were not connected before).
Mains L into L
Boiler L into 3
Loop wire connecting L to 2

Does this look right?

Have you verified that the blue core in the black sheathing is actually a neutral? If what you deduce is correct then I’m baffled as to how the boiler operated when missing a neutral.
Have you stocked up on 3 amp fuses.
April fools day already? Hopefully you’ll get around to securing the unit to wall.

The other end of the black sheathed wires are deep in the bowels of the boiler! No idea why it wasn't attached but boiler has been working so far (last two years, system was installed when we moved into the property). Plenty of fuses on stand-by!

Set-up seems similar to that posted on this video (eg no earth wires and no neutral into boiler) …

yep, the neutral is capped off inside the boiler so is just running live

...and you listen to someone who uses a neon when testing for voltages?
So your boiler has been working fine utilising only the brown core as shown above in your opening post?

Hey

Cracked on and all seems to be working as normal. I didn't blow up the kitchen (or a fuse)!

Thanks for help,

Cole
