Installing an Extractor Fan with Timer in Moscow?

First of all, lets set the scene. I am an Englishman living in a 5th floor flat in Moscow, Russia. I am a bit of a novice where electrics are concerned, so I limit myself to replacing things and not installing things.

I have 3 'ducted' extractor fans fitted in my flat, 1 in the bathroom, 1 in the toilet and 1 in the kitchen. The 1 in the kitchen has not worked since I started living in this flat, but you can see that it once did work by the amount of dirt/dust inside of it.

So, off I go to my local DIY store, old extractor in hand to try and find something the same size for a direct replacement and I end up with S&P Decor 100 CR and try to fit it this morning.

All of my extractors are switched on manually by a wall switch (as for lights), but they are not connected to anything else, but the extractor itself.

I have a live and a neutral and I test that the live is live and that the switch is working. So I wire it up, turn back on the mains power and the extractor doesn't work. So I start to wonder why. I then discover in the instructions that this particular model has a TIMER and the wiring diagram shows both a direct and switched live feeds!!!

Well, I haven't got such and the wiring is obviously buried in the wall so is there anything simple I can do to make this extractor work with or without the TIMER?

Or, should I just take the extractor back and change it for a simpler one without a timer?

yes, very easy.

a timer fan needs a permanent supply, when the light is switched on this then puts a live onto the timer terminal.

when the light is switched off, the timer runs the fan for the set time, from the supply it already has

in your case if you link the live to the timer input terminal the fan will think the supply is on and the light is on at the same time and so it should run.

how ever timers do fail after some time, so i would take it bacjk and get one without timer, but if you dont want to you can link the timer input to the light supply

Providing you link the right one to the timer supply, which is usuualy the live.

is it true that in Russia the TV sits and watches you?

I don't think that it watches me (the TV), but I'm sure that my telephone can be monitored anytime and I understand it is possible to 'monitor' someone through the alarm system (radio and telephone linked) if someone should want too.

So back to the question. Are you saying that I should just run a single connecting wire from my live 'switched' feed terminal on the ventilator to the third terminal which would be the terminal for the timer?

I'd rather check first as one time, I bought an infra red controlled roof fan and light from Argus, brought it all the way back to Moscow, mixed up two live wires and burnt the infra red part out.

yes, assuming the instructions say the third terminal is for switched live, (wire from light / switch) which most are
