See photo: loft conversion, party wall with chimney breast. A stud wall has been placed along the wall. Query: The stud will be insulated and plaster boarded. Does the actual party wall need to have fireboard and or insulation as well? If so, is dot dab acceptable.Builder says just do stud…

Not sure if this is a proper loft conversion to code or just an attic room but in any case you don’t need to touch that party wall at all - it’s fireproof as it is. Just insulate between the studs as per req insulation specs and then screw normal or insulated plasterboard as per specs straight onto stud work.

Thank you for the advice - This is a dormer loft conversion to code. The plans are silent on this, and various builders' advice come up with different answers. Most are similar to your comments, there is not a req to insulate/board the actual party wall in additon to the stud.

Of course you have to insulate it unless next door has already converted their loft, it's effectively an external wall, so probably 100mm Celotex or Kingspan between the studs will suffice.
