Insulating between floors

Our house is like a tinder box... if your upstairs you can hear people talking and the TV ect... also if your downstairs you can hear every creak and bump from upstairs..We're having a full rewire done which will require lifting the upstairs floors. Whilst the floors are up we were thinking of insulating between the joists in order to dampen the noise and also hopefully make the place a bit warmer... what materials am I best using for this? we were looking at using rock wool ... are there any downsides to this kind of thing?...ive uploaded a photo of the cavity

Minersl wool batting is the best thing to use on terms of sound deadening, you should getv159mm in there easily, but make sure it is cut to a snug fit between the joists - no gaps! You might also want to consider putting sound deadening material between your existing joists and the (new) sub-floor, e.g. Hush-10 joist strip, although good old fashioned thick heavy felt carpet underlay cut into strips and glued on top of the joists isn't bad and a lot cheaper. Top of floor should ideally be carpeted and have heavy duty felt underlay as well, as opposed to the modern trend of laminate or engineered flooring, which is colder and noisier
