The only practical way to bring light into our kitchen is an internal window fitted between the kitchen and living room.

The problem is this wall is a breezeblock load bearing internal wall.

I assume cutting a hole out and fitting a window in this would require a lintel to be fitted? And would be a big job and very expensive?

Type of window would probably be a 1000mm wide upvc one.

I don't think that is a practical way. But yes, it will need a lintel, and building regulation approval, and if the fire regulations apply (flat or three storey house) extra precautions.
