Is it easy and free to get gas pipe work that may not be ours & not in use removed

Just pulled down ceiling plasterboard in basement and found two different gas supply pipes, each routed in steel and each connected to its own shut off on the pavement outside.

One supply is disconnected / unused, goes no where and is terminated with a tap.

The other may go to another property upstairs. We can't see where is goes as it goes back into the wall.

Problem is both these protrude beyond the stud partition where they come in and so are at least unsightly.

Will gas network folks come and re-route tidy up the potentially dead circuit?

Is it easy to find out what's ours and what is not?

Will they remove the apparently redundant / unused steel circuit without charge?

Nothing is done without a charge kez1. Talk to a gas safe engineer to get a price once they have been and looked.

1. No gas pipe should be terminated with a tap, unless it is disconnected at the meter. Best practice would then be to remove the pipe altogether, or at the very least to cap the other end.
2. As just pumps says, there will be a charge.

Call cadent out (grid) tell them you think you have a dead service and need it checking they will come out and do it for free , if it's not a service they won't charge if it is they will organise it being removed for free

gas also has pavement isolating its called house entry tee with a isolation valve inside it
