Hi everyone just a quick question, is it ok to run Cat6 Ethernet that will be carrying POE with runs that will not be used for carrying POE?

I'm aware its not good practice to run alongside mains power and wondered if the same applied for POE.

Thankyou any feedback is much appreciated.

Yes, the whole point of PoE is that you can use the existing network cables for power as well as data. Ie it's designed to use whatever cabling is already in place.

Sure but if you are putting it in the wall think about future proofing the cable by getting high spec Cat7 cable. Its quite a bit chunkier than Cat5 or Cat6 and hence is a pain to route around corners, it's almost stiff to work with but in a few years time when you upgrade from 1gbps to 10gbps home networking you won't need to relay your cables.

Cat6 will do 10G Ethernet up to 55m which should be more than adequate unless you have a much bigger house than I do ! I would suggest that making runs maintainable as far as possible would be of more use - ie use conduits , floors you can lift, etc so that you can add/remove/change cables as required.
Let's face it, not long ago people were (and still are !) Putting in coax to run their Sky to multiple rooms at low quality.

I second this 100%,

Currently coming to the end of my full house renovation and I've got 26 cat6 drops throughout the house all run in conduit and completely serviceable, so glad I decided to put in the extra time/work for this.
