I want to stain some flat packed furniture to match newer items etc..
The shelving units in question are made from thick chipboard covered in a beech veneer (i think)
I was thinking about lightly sanding the coating or varnish on the veneer so that I could stain the veneer.

Is this possible? If so, are there any other methods of stripping back the veneer without going through it that I should try?

Meths and some wire wool?

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Spesh
ru sure it is actualy a veneer and not a printed effect?

It's unusual to see real veneer these days!

If it is, then best option is to lightly sand with say 240 grit on an unseen area (underneath say) and try rub a little stain on with a rag. Then wipe off with a clean rag and allow to dry. If you like the effect then - Voila!
