Is this bonding plaster, cement render, or a cat under the finish?

A builder says it is bonding plaster, another says cement, the postman says it is a medieval cob wall, and Mrs Bucket down the road thinks its her lost cat.

For the love of god, put Mrs Bucket out of her misery and tell me this is some kind of cement render.

How old is your house?
It looks a little like lime render to me.
Dig a bit out and drop it in some white vinegar - if it fizzes a lot, it is likely lime, if its a bit frothy, it may be cement.
