Hi,
I am looking to install a electromagnetic lock, controlled by a keypad, and two exit buttons, and a buzzer.

I have the setup working with a bench supply at moment and the lock, along with the keypad is drawing 0.55amps @ 12v.

I need 6 wires for the keypad (12vin, 12vout, gnd, opensw and 2 bell terminals) and I am going to run separate cables from each item and the power to a central junction, to make further customization easier.

The magnetic lock is a monitored model, with 5 terminals.

I was planning to use this cable for the lock and the keypad. Maximum run for each cable will be 2 metres. Is it a reasonable choice?

I could use 6 core right now, but 8 may give me some further flexibility.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi,

Only a DIY'er, but I'm pretty sure that will be fine!
0.58mm2 is about 20AWG which has a current carrying capacity of up to 1.5A.

Although it's worth finding out the current draw of the maglock.
As you have the spare cores available, I would consider doubling-up the cables to the power connections on it - just to be sure!

I hope that makes sense! :)
