I have a new to me Samsung GT-N7000 phone. I thought I could l load up some Java Script web pages and use it to calculate cable sizes etc.

The pages work A1 on a PC but although they load OK on the phone pressing the calculate button does nothing.

Is there any thing I can do to get phone reading Java Script?

Download Chrome and try that (although, most Android based phones will use Chrome by default now).
You could also try an alternative browser like Dolphin Browser too.

Javascript runs 'client side' (in your browser, on your computer/phone - not on the web server). Some complex JS, may such as those used in big calculators can cause browsers to...well...fall over/fail.
That said, most smartphones are massively overpowered, so it's rare this would be an issue - but your phone is about 5 years old and relatively low spec, so this could possibly be an issue.
