Hi,

My missus has a 93 Kia Pride, on which the oil light keeps flickering. There's plenty of oil in the car, so all I can think of is:

a) Oil pump failing -- presumably this is mechanical, so I'm not sure how it would fail to work
b) Oil pressure switch dodgy.

Can anyone think of any other causes, or checks I can do to isolate the problem?

Thanks

Jim

Cable?
poor earth?
sensor?
Blocked oil filter?
Worn engine, crankshaft/bigends, oil pump etc.

Are you sure it's not a "I have no taste in cars" warning light? :D

Got to be worth a look, although I'm worried that if it's an earth or cable problem, sorting it will only result in the oil light being on all the time!

Thanks - I'll do some more investigatin'

Why do you think I made it clear that it was the missus' car...??? To be fair though, it was a freebie!

That's alright, just remove the bulb!

Missuses car... :D

Hi,

if you unscrew the oil switch from engine block, you can clean it out. Inside the switch is a ball and spring, the oil pressure pushes the ball into the switch when oil pressure is built up when engine is started. you can actually feel this happening if you push a thin rod into the hole. why don't you replace it anyway as they are only cheap.
