Hi all

We moved into our house a couple years ago after viewing it three times and we loved it... but we never saw the lack of worktop/storage in the kitchen. As you can imagine this had to change...

The problem with the room was there was too many doors leading to hallway, outside, dining room, storage cupboard and under stair larder. So in March 2009 the builder arrived to make some changes...

He also fitted some french doors for us...

The project was then put on hold while I was resting after an operation then it was my turn with the hammer...

That concluded the demolition, time to start building up the kitchen. Most of the plastering was done by me but I did call on the pros to do the kitchen side of the room...

I needed a home cooked hot dinner so just found a scrap worktop to put the hob into good use..

Thats where I'm at now...

To Do List:

Finish the base unit run where the cooker is (align and fit to the wall)

Get the CU replaced and box in cables

Cove and paint the dining area

Tile the floor

Find someone to fit the worktop (I don't fancy having a go at doing the mitre joint)

Will update in the next couple of week...

Looks good, and not dissimilar to what we are thinking of doing at the place we have bought. What did the build cost you exclusive of the kitchen?

I was only just working that out the other day.

The build:

Wall removal was £700 inc making good (1week)
Doors were £1100 (1 Day)
Plastering £45 (mine) £150 (Kitchen ceiling and two walls)
Timber, Plasterboard and new internal door £300
Electrics £250 (Done myself)

(£2545)

The kitchen:

The kitchen so far has cost 2K
Tiles will be £200
 
Looks like the kitchen cupboard brick wall was holding up the joists on the edge of the stairs/landing. I take it the studwork is there to hold it up now?

Did you get a builder/structual engineer to ok the removal of that wall?

Result looks good, good luck with the rest of the work.
 
Yea I did consult the builder who done the door and dining room wall, I did get him to price it up to take it out but I got the impression he wasn't intersted in our 'small' jobs.

The cupboard was supporting a half height brick/block wall on the landing, we had taken that down before removing the cupboard below, then set about securing the joists to a trimmer using hangers. The studs are just there to fill the gap.

Update:

Had the CU changed over the weekend boxed in the cables, I decided not to chase them in due to further projects will need to have access to them.
 
Here we go one almost finished kitchen diner just waiting for the missus to choose curtains and blinds, wait for the cooker hood and for the table and chairs to arrive...

Nice work...I wonder why were there so many doors in the first place.
