Kitchen tap won’t stop! Replacement?

We have a kitchen mixer tap that kept dripping so knew that the washer was going.
Last night turning this off, it seemed to “snap” and the cold tap wouldn’t turn off as the handle just turns round to infinity with the water just slowing and not stopping!

So we managed to get to the cold feed isolator and turned off to stop the tap.

The only problem is that the cold feed feeds the washing machine and the dishwasher, so they are out of action.

I will attach pictures of the mixer tap and have taken the first part/top off. Are these fairly easy to find a part or fix just temporary for a couple of months before changing the kitchen/taps etc properly?

Can anyone tell me just temporary get this working again with cold water back on in the kitchen?
Or are these type of taps dead and it needs a full replacement?

Have a look at tap revivers (B&Q, screwfix ) or whatever....I suspect the plastic splines have worn away on the tap heads.

if it really is the splines, pull the knob off and swap it for the one on the other side.

It might be that the jumper has jammed due to the washer wearing too thin, or falling off.

Tap revivers are useful things to gave in your plumbing box.

Surely if i pull the knob off and swap it for the one on the other side, then the HOT tap would be in the same position?
But i might have a look at the jumper if you think it could be that? or the washer?

no, they would then both be turned off.

you can use the knob to operate whichever tap you want, until you get it fixed.

Yes, they are easy to fit.....
Water off
Remove the plastic tap tops (philips screw out and pull)
Unscrew the original tap body with an adjustable spanner (Don't allow the tap itself to move)
Replace with the tap reviver, best to turn this thing on a bit before screwing in.
You might like to consider 'cross head' style taps - much easier to operate, especially when you become arthritic

As you can see the cold feed is the bottom T shape so one end goes to the Tap, and the other goes to the Washing Machine and Dishwasher

I can't see any further up valves so this must be the isolator for the Tap?

In second pic there are two isolation valves ,just below the T shaped White plastic fittings. You need to look for two more ,close to the tap. Start where the two pipes join the tap under the sink ,and follow the pipe down.
Have you managed to pull off the tap head ,as an earlier poster suggested ?

Thank you, I will try and look for some closer to tap valves, but i'm sure i didn't see anything at all but will check again

I haven't managed to pull the tap head off yet, as this is at my parents house (not mine).. Is it easy enough to just pull off with force? or are they attached somehow?

The pic of cold tap shows that the screw which holds the tap head onto the valve has already been removed. The hot has a silver cap that you prise out ,reveals red pladtic washer ,with a screw in the centre. Remove the screw and tap head pulls off the spline. Be aware that they can be quite stubborn to pull off ,as they get encrusted with limescale. Pouring boiling water over can help . To be honest the tap has seen better days ,i would fit a new tap.

Yes we have a new Tap, but in order to do this, my Dad insists on changing the whole kitchen, worktops, sink, everything! all before Xmas! and he is getting older, and hasn't been well...

So my posting tonight (secretly) to this site, who have been brilliant in the past when i've needed help, was to try and look for simpler and quicker solution at least until after Xmas time and into the New Year.

So, either replacing a tap head as you suggest, or even replace the whole new tap on this current sink, (but he won't hear of that as he's stubborn lol).

So its just a quick solution, so that we can get Cold water feed back into the kitchen, as they do not have any cold tap, dishwasher or washing machine whilst its out of action!
