Labour acts on pledges.

I sense you are mislead about how Council taxes get their money and how it’s spent ............
Central government have allowed local authorities to raise more from council tax as the gap has widened

Has central government spent £600m on Rwanda scheme that has achieved absolutely nothing and was created to achieve absolutely nothing?

Has central govt cut taxes to buy voters?

Did central govt wast billions on POE contracts to their mates

Recent news. Councils grouping together to talk to the gov about funding. Main problem is the increase of the cost of some of the services they are expected to provide. Also cuts in funding over a period of time. The word unsustainable is being used. Doesn't appear to be party related.

LOL I should have added they are talking about it.

Let’s face it. All parties pledge what they think their key voters and some floating voters want to hear

Then do something else if elected
Let's face it. In this instance Labour are telling you clearly BEFORE an election.

If long term growth since the GFC continues at half the rate of the thirty years before GFC, then there will be big decisions to make whoever is in power.

If interest rates stay relatively high, interest on government debt will be a big factor as well. It made me laugh a few years ago when lots of politicians were saying don't worry about borrowing because debt is so cheap.

Well,

OK, what has changed to make it lower? It hasn't all gone in bankers' bonuses and Tories' pals' payments.
We are losing financial services, oil & gas have issues, maybe we ought to make high tech stuff again. (Or of course trade our way out...)

Quiz question: Where is the factory which makes the equipment which makes the world's fastest microchips. Shouldn't be hard, there is only one. The answer may make you think "why not us?".

Taiwan / the east. So much for Trump restricting sales of their fab equipment, Japan probably figures in some of the parts needed or maybe they have lost that. Optics and micromanipulators.

The UK does have some fabrication plants. Pass but I get the impression they are specific where as others are working on the next generations. Also some of the old majors had plants in Scotland ;) thought to be down to stable bed rock. No idea what is there now.

The east got going long ago by making duplicate parts that were supplied by the west. Eventually the east's products surpassed the wests but as cheaper earlier on the gained market size. So the west dropped out of manufacturing them and concentrated on more expensive / more technical parts. Some names disappeared / were changed and also dropped out of certain sectors. Texas for instance is still alive and well. You might think digital is all that matters Wrong there is still plenty of use of analogue. Texas concentrate on making the best. Volumes set the final price.

Don’t worry if Sir Kier ever gets in power he’ll soon claw that back and more. ;)

The elephant in the room since GFC is the huge increase in wealth inequality.

The U.K. is a poor country with some very rich people

Climate change is going to force a rethink on growth.

That largely depends on what you do with the borrowing.

Economic growth requires good infrastructure and that costs but the returns are long.

of course governments can create money without borrowing, although that’s not a bottomless pit

These are definitely some of the issues I was thinking about. Especially, whether there might need to be a wealth transfer mechanism. For so long we have relied on a growing economy as the way to fund everything. The flip side of climate change is whether, (in some way beyond my understanding), it might spur another (green) industrial revolution and lead to greater but more sustainable growth.

capitalism model relies on infinite resources

Im not sure what alternative model will work -communism, marxism, socialism are interesting theories but nobody has ever made them work
