Hi,

I hope the pictures have attached themselves so you can have a look.

Starting to sort my garden out in my new house. Needs levelling and raised retaining beds installed. The channels you can see in pictures is me sorting out the levels (excavating the ground next week with just me, a shovel, a wheel barrow and a skip!)

Also going to lay a patio length of back wall to garage out by 2 metres (from back wall to man hole cover). I’m going to rip up the patio you can see in the pictures.

2 problems I have seen.

1. I think there are some lintels that are supporting/protecting the waste pipes from my dishwasher/washing machine and my kitchen sink. Can these be removed? If not can I put mortar on top of it and lay the slabs on top? I would then have to set my levels off that wouldn’t I for the rest of the patio? What about the damp proof course?

2. There is a man hole cover that I need to consider, looks like I can put mortar on top and get one of those manhole covers where you can put in the mortar and slabs. Does it look like I need to do any more to the brickwork around the hole?

I’m pretty handy with garden DIY just need some advice on the lintels if anything else.

Cheers

Robbo

You can’t remove the lintel but you can pave upto it, over the drain, just don’t whack the slabs too hard.

The manhole lid will be ok too, it will be deeper than what’s there not but that might put it about right for your new patio.
