Hi all,

I've started working on a 3x6 metre porcelain patio out the back of our house. I've dug out to around 150mm below finished paving level (with 1 in 60 fall away from house) so now ready to get 100mm of MOT type 1 whackered in.

There used to be a wee pond about 2x2 metres big to one side of where the patio is going. About 4 months ago I dug out the membrane and filled it in with a mix of earth and broken up concrete. As you can probably imagine, if I dig my heel into this area it can go pretty deep (recent wet weather hasn't helped) whereas the ground is pretty solid everywhere else.

I'm very hesitant to build the patio over this area as I've read about how filled in ponds can take a long time to settle properly. The last thing I want is to spend ages getting the patio perfect and then see it slowly sink into the ground over winter!

Do you agree that it'd be daft to put down MOT and lay patio over this area now? I'm thinking I should I get the rest of the area done and leave this section until spring so the ground has had time and weather to help it settle.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers,
Jack

Decided to leave this area for another 6 months or so, didn't fancy taking the risk.
