I hope someone will be able to help.

This morning i found water all over the floor under the hot water cylinder and i traced the leak to one of the thermostats attached to the hot water cylinder.

I have contacted a plumber who i have used before who is pretty sure it is a cracked cylinder (he can't come to see it yet, he's waiting for a COVID test result) and the amount quoted is pretty steep (it needs solar connections as well).

Just wondering if it could be anything else...?

(First time posting, apologies if i have broken any rules.)

No you have not broken any rules, your pics dont actually show anything, most solar cylinders have 25 years warranty so you should be covered , more pics further out would be better

My plumber said the same thing about the 25 years warranty but unfortunately i didn't have it serviced for the first few years i had it (when i bought my new build flat) i have some service records from BG homecare for about 5 years. I will try and put a warranty claim in for it on monday. But i don't have much hope that they will uphold it.

My plumber has quoted me £1100 for a new cylinder and £600 for labour.

Guess what i am asking for is whether there could be something else wrong here that does not require a complete cylinder replacement. And if not, is this the kind of price range i should be expecting?

Thanks!

It looks like it has been leaking from the automatic air vent, that is all I can see, very simple job and no it wont be covered by the cylinder warranty

Sorry, i dont think i described the leak very well. i've circled where the leak is coming from. One of my previous pictures shows a water droplet on the very edge of it.

The automatice air vent has looked like this for a long time and even if it did leak in the past, its not leaking currently.

I can see one droplet of water on the bottom corner of the stat ,but it's impossible to tell from pics where it originates from.
Wipe a dry tissue around higher up and see if it's damp anywhere else.

It's coming from the joint between the thermostat and the metal tube that sticks out of the cylinder. Ive marked it on the next picture
