Lighten wooden floor - options?

We're currently in the process of redecorating our lounge and hallway, which currently has a real wooden floor in. However, we hate the current colour of it. It is far too dark, and we're really looking for something lighter.

I've sanded back a sample, which is actually a nicer light colour - however, after applying a satin clear varnish, it went much darker again (did take a photo post varnish, but can't find it at the moment):

I've also tried some Osmo stains - white, grey, and oak. But they look incredibly artificial and too intense:

Does anyone have any suggestions on a finish that would maintain the lightness, yet still looks natural?
 
you will need to bleach the wood, look for a two part wood bleach that is caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide. But it won't be a pleasant job for a whole floor, also use the relevant protection, these chemicals are hazardous.
Read the instructions some just need washing off with water some need neutralizing with a mild acid.
Also you will need to completely remove all traces of the finish on the wood, all over and all the way down otherwise you could get a patchy finish, you can repeat the process if it's still not light enough.
 
What kind of wood is it, and does it need a finish at all? Can't you just sand it, and put a clear wax on it if necessary?
