Locking a diff on ford Galaxy

As tittle , removing engine for power source , want to lock or control the differential its a 1.9 DTI 51 plate cheers
 
Can you give us a hint of what you want to do.....locking a diff would give terrible steering and tyre wear, not to mention strain on the driveshafts. A limited slip diff may be available though.

Want to use the engine to run a propeller one side and belt drive various add on units the other side , option of independent isolation is great but expect to have to disengage the prop via a gear selector

I guess the diff could be locked by either drilling the pinions and fitting roll pins or whatever, or more drastically by welding it up. You obviously require drive from both ends of the diff.
A bit of concern may be the speed at which the propeller is meant to rotate, concerning cavitation etc. At least you'd still have a clutch and a gearbox of course.

The prop will need its own gearbox as I intend to salvage an outboard , remove the engine and be capable of switching to a 12v motor to run off batteries when the suns been out enough lol , aiming for part solar set up off grid

If its easier to adapt the diff to all run off one of the driveshafts that's fine , just clutching at straws without any experience of that end of the engine , did think to leave one side free but thought that may cause damage
 
The driveshafts plug in to either side of the diff but if one side is not connected to anything and allowed to spin free you wont get any drive to the other....
in other words if you wanted to have a drive to a prop you'd need to stop the other side driveshaft connection from rotating.
Ideally I'd think you would need an engine, then clutch and gearbox which would give you only one rotating output - not the easiest thing with a FWD unit.

My initial thought was that I would damage the diff , is that not so as it makes my life easier
 
No, the diff wont be damaged, I cant see any real problems with your proposal. The diff pinions would be moving pretty quickly if one side is locked up but should be capable of dealing with that.

If I remove I assume I will keep immobilizer , exhaust sensors , keeping the cooling system , anything else come to mind , can I override the abs in some fashion ?
 
Yes, you’ll need of those engine components, but the ABS system won’t apply here.
I have to say, one of the earlier indirect injection diesels will be much less reliant on immobilisers etc, perhaps the Peugeot XUD from the 205 for example.

Unfortunately my brain directs me to recycle as best I can , not just to save the planet but I enjoy the challenges it throws in my path , its an education , I could buy a boat or any system I want but that's not for me lol , cheers for all your help forums are great for an unbiased opinion and you haven't disappointed cheers

Unfortunately you will need a fair bit of the donor car's wiring to get you through the immobiliser / ECU - hence my comment on the older more logical diesels.

Lol I'm cutting it out with an angle grinder , start at the ecu and work all directions till the engines freeeeee
