Hi all,

I installed some loft boards in the house a year or so ago, and am now worrying about the weight. Used approximately 12 of screwfixs' boards (pic attached ) in a rough L shape.

Some key details:
Joists are 600 mm apart
Joists are 38mm wide, 125 deep (rough measure)
Boards weigh 13kg a pack, approx 4 packs used. Spread over 6 joists.
Only light stuff up there (empty suitcases, old clothes, xmas decs.) I read somewhere that it was 25kg per square metre?
No signs of warping/flexing at all. Beams seemed straight when i checked.
It is in the centre of the loft, over the bathroom wall.
Total area is (approx) 2.1 metre long running with the joists, by 1800mm and the the foot of the "L" is another 4 1800 boards further on. Apologies if that is hard to visualise just wanted to provide the detail.

My question is is there too much up there? Does it need removing?

That's 52kg of boards spread over a large distance with lightweight stuff which probably weighs another 50kg?

Your loft will take that easily , I weigh more than that and I've never bought a beam down yet by standing on it!

You should see my mum's loft if you worry about beams groaning under weight with the amount of c*** she keeps up there and that's not boarded!

after a year if no noticeable sag or worrying cracks ---- dont worry :D
as the last poster says quite a light load as it goes
i assume there are walls under the boarded are ??

Yeah there is a bathroom wall under the boarded area.

Did notice this line today....

Really close to the area where the boards are.....

not worrying to my eye
could be a slight mismatch or step in surface

Ceiling joists are usually sized to take a live loading (ie suitcases, kids old toys, decorations, old computers and other assorted imported carp) of around 5 lbs per sq foot.
Doubtful you will be near that.
